Sinatur Hotel & Konference wins the European Business Award for the Environment 2020

Green Key labelled Sinatur Hotel & Konference won the European Business Award for the Environment in the category of Environmental Management for the implementation of a comprehensive environmental strategy. The award ceremony was digital and held by the Danish Society of Engineers, IDA.

Sinatur Hotel & Konference, with its 6 hotels situated in the most beautiful locations within the Danish nature, has always had a soft spot for the environment and the will to drive a responsible business:

About the European Business Award for the Environment

Since 1987 the EU has awarded both private and public companies the business award for their efforts in promoting sustainable innovation, solutions and initiatives. The purpose of the European Business Award for the Environment is to increase awareness of sustainable innovation and solutions within the European business community as well as to increase the development of eco-innovation across the 27 EU-Countries.

Focus on the UN Sustainable Development Goals

The business award takes place every second year, and in Denmark it is the Danish Society of Engineers that is responsible for the award in collaboration with European Commission, the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries. The award ceremony should have taken place in December 2020 at a physical location, but ended up as a digital event instead due to the current Covid-19 situation.

There are 3 different categories for which the participant can compete in: Sustainable Processes, Environmental Management and Sustainable Products and Services. In 2020, focus across all categories was on how the competitors supported the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

Sinatur’s Award

Sinatur’s award in the category of Environmental Management is given to a company, organization or project that to a certain degree accomplishes to implement a strategic vision, have clear goals and a systematic interest dialog as well as involvement.

The motivation behind the awarding Sinatur Hotel & Conference the prize is as follows:

“Sinatur Hotel & Konference won the European Business Award for the Environment within the category of Environmental Management for the implementation of a comprehensive sustainability strategy that includes everything from a certified CO2 calculation for the entire company’s value chain, the use of solar panels, wind energy from own wind mill, a sustainable purchasing policy, focus on recycling across all business areas, supplier collaboration on sustainable packaging, organic food, own forest, drawing environmental ambassadors through the app “Grøn Sinatur” and a goal oriented work towards communicating with customers and network.

The Committee sees a dedicated and focused effort with a clear vision and goals that show a continuous strive to improve their achievements in increasing sustainability within the management of their hotel – and conference business.

A Light in the Dark and the Motivation to Continue the Green Journey

The award is a light in a time, where our industry is suffering particular, as closed restaurants and hotels have been everyday life for far too long. Fortunately, these struggles do not put an end to our environmental efforts and an award like this one boosts our motivation to continue this journey and the ambitious work with Sinatur’s 2030-goals.” explains Claus Nielsen.
